Mr Fintan O’Toole (Irish Times; Princeton)

Fintan O’Toole is one of Ireland’s leading social commentators and public intellectuals. He was Leonard L. Milberg ’53 Visiting Lecturer in Irish Letters at Princeton for Spring 2012. He is a columnist, feature writer, drama critic and assistant editor at the Irish Times newspaper and also contributes to The New York Review of Books, The New Yorker, Granta, The Guardian, The Observer, and other international publications. He is the author of a number of books including Ship of Fools:  How Stupidity and Corruption Sank the Celtic Tiger (2010) and Enough is Enough:  How to Build a New Republic (2010).  He has also recently edited a collection of essays from writers, economists, historians and lawyers titled Up the Republic! Towards a New Ireland (2012), which offers hope of economic, social and political renewal and reform in Ireland.
